Pro-active Playing
I have noticed that a lot of players have very little APM (actions per minute) when they play vamp speed.
This post is to persuade players to try to macro-manage more and micro-manage more during a game.
1.)Look Around!
This is more important when playing humans; a vamp is obviously going to be looking around quite a bit. I can't tell you how many times looking around at my allies base or the vamps inventory (and lich's and research center's inventories) has saved me. It is ALWAYS a good idea to look around at the map and vital areas (such as bases, the middle, or the vamps position) and see what's going on with the game. This will help you plan your next move or help prevent a detrimental attack from the vamp.
2.)Help Allies
It's not too hard to select a slayer (or 2) and blink him into an ally's base to net the vamp, shield the structures, or help repair with a couple engineers. Next time your ally's units are being killed and he's not detonating them, try blinking to that base, ensnaring the vampire, and COMMANDING that your ally does the following: "CLICK ON YOUR UNITS AND USE D, CLICK. DETONATE. DETONATE GOGOGO." Maybe that will get the point across.
Also, think about getting a vest on one of your slayers. It's only 10 gold (I believe), and allows your slayer to see invisible units. This will help you not only kill shades that are on the way to someone's base, but prevent vamps from getting harvester feeds by killing assassins! (I'm assuming you assassin-block your harvesters and therefore do not need this assistance yourself). Futhermore, you can't ensnare a vamp that you can't see!
Finally, try to help your allies improve their skill and understand things that they don't already. If you see an ally with a hole in their base, NOTIFY THEM! It will benefit you if your allies do better in the game.
3.)Plan your Next Move
As vamp, it is VERY helpful to place shades in areas that you will be going next. If you plan on attacking 1 human, then another one quickly, you'll need a shade to jump to. This can easily be done by always placing the research center under (by slightly right of) the blood fountain. This way you can purchase shades and assassins with your research center.
4.)Micro!
Rqx was the first one to show me the significance of doing 2 things at once in vamp. Distracting a human AND a comet tower by attacking a human's main defenses can give you an opportunity to send in an assassin. If a vamp is tearing away at a human's defenses, the comet tower will initially attack the vamp, leaving the assassin open, and the human will be too distracted to focus the comet.
Sometimes it's best to hotkey (group) some of your important units. For example, as human, I hotkey my human, super tower builder, goblin builder, research center, and main wall. Obviously, It is very useful to be able to select any of your builders and blink them to an area that they are needed. Also, sometimes its necessary to upgrade things very quickly (such as wall upgrades); thus the research center hotkey. Also, it may be best to hotkey your main (or backup) wall so that you can easily set your area of vision to your main defenses.
-As Vamp, I hotkey shades, assassins, research center, and vamp.

Recently, I've actually gotten above 160 apm after a relatively long game! Trust me, being a pro-active player can REALLY help your game; it's also more fun-.-

Re: Pro-active Playing
Greg, I don't understand your post. Being pro-active doesn't mean making the game shorter. It means managing your time more efficiently.
Did you even read what I wrote? You posted 3 minutes after I did..

Re: Pro-active Playing
gosu, im not trying to offend you, (that is if i am) if ur suggesting slayers to get a vest, and about your "plan your next move" ur already advising them to get a vest to detect invisible units and blink to that shade, i see some pros actually buying vest and scouts their bases external infos, so maybe it should be call your shade to get to another empty base
everytime i play as a vampire, and destroy till 1 -2 bases left, ill wait till im lvl 100, and for those other money, ill upgrade my shade hp and damage, so that the slayer will have difficulty killing them and therefore after the vampire destroys the base, they cant reveal from cc/ BoO (unless they built it somewhere particualr) you just put all shades in every bases (remember u need meat wagons too for extending food maximumamity <-- ahahah
just teleport to them and stun and ensures you a gg

Re: Pro-active Playing
If your already getting bored, take a small break and comeback when all other players have become better than you.

LOL, I also play TDs even though I'm Asian. And where did you get that idea? Have you been in any American or European room?
And remember, Vampirism has the concept of tag game and tower defense.
